Last names are not the first names one would pick when giving themselves a name. However, even though last names are indeed last, they are first in determining a person's family, lineage, genealogy and self-worth.

For instance, in some cultures a Johnson is worth several dollars more than a Taylor and a Newcomb is worth twice as much as an Onderdonk. That said, it is hard to place a value on self worth when it comes to last names, but most likely yours is of little value.

This is not a judgment of any kind whatsoever, just a simple fact. Yours is worth less than mine. Now, let's move on from this identity crisis and clash of pride we have here.

Last names for many people mean surnames. The surname meanings, however do not mesh all that well with last names. Yes, it gets confusing. Surnames are about respect and last names usually indicated something that is not first.

For instance, your first name is indeed your most important name because it is first. Your last name, however, is last with good reason. It is not as important as the first. The first name indicated individual identity. And, your last name indicates family identity with all the shame, degradation and humiliation that this entails in a cumulative fashion all along the family tree.

For instance if you have several nare-do-wells associated with your last name along the family tree, this cancels out any royalty, celebrities or other notables. This shame is passed up the family tree along the branches, into the leaves and into you in a multigenerational fashion, which you then amplify and pass on to your offspring.

And, spring off your offspring must as they are too ashamed to stay around you with your shameful last name and deeds, because in reality the son is responsible for the sins of the father. Sins, shame, degradation and defamation of character are all passed upwards. Even if you try vomited and pooping them out or take on an addiction to try to squelch them out the shame of your last name follows you wherever you go.

The best that one can do in regard to his or her last name is cower in a corner in shame and wait for life to end. The worst one can do with one's last name is to pass it along to an unsuspecting child who then has to carry the family shame forward. Nip it in the bud, I say! Last names are a curse. Legally change your name to just one word like Cher and then go live your life. Of course, how do your children sign legal documents if they are sons and daughters of Cher?
